“Transformed” NOT “Ignorant”
by Gus Buma
Sad, but true, many people would rather not know God’s Word than to know it and make an informed decision. They would have to risk living with a troubled conscience knowing their action could contradict God’s directive. Knowing God’s Word might muddy-up what they believe what should be true in their own mind and thwart their ideal of how they would like life, values, eternity, etc. to be. ...so the solution? Chuck the book!
I have found a word used five times in the New Testament for these people in I Corinthians 14: 16, 23, 24. The word as used in the KJV is rendered, “unlearned” (in Acts 14:13, “ignorant” and in II Corinthians 14:6, “rude”).
(14:16) Else when thou shalt bless with the spirit, how shall he that occupieth the room of the unlearned say Amen at thy giving of thanks, seeing he understandeth not what thou sayest?. KJV
The word essentially is used to distinguish a layman from a religious official: uneducated contrasted with educated. However, the Greek form of the word is “Idioti”. Now you can figure out what that word ended up to be in English.
God’s people do not want to be “Idioti”. Rather, let us study, assimilate, and accommodate The Book (not chuck) and allow ourselves to be TRANSFORMED by the renewing of our mind, that we may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. (Romans 12:2) Oh yeh, one more thought. That word transformed in Romans? ...you guessed it. The Greek is “metamorohoo”: our word METAMORPHOSES. This word can also be found in Matthew 17:2 and Mark 9:2 = TRANSFIGURED.
(II Corinthians 3:18) But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are CHANGED into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord. KJV
cp. I Corinthians 4:6 Paul and Apollos TRANSFERING within themselves the example how one should act.
cf. The Blessed Hope Philippians 3:21 = FASHIONED into Jesus’ glorious body.
cf. Satan’s deceitful TRANSFORMING = II Corinthians 11:13, 14, 15
Many of the lost will not see Jesus in the The Book. Let God’s people so live that they see Him in them.
