What has Happened to the Family
by Pastor Pollard
There’s no question that how we raise our families has changed dramatically in the past 50 years. And there’s no question that God has a huge interest in the Christian home. Scripture has a great deal to say about what God prescribes, but our generation has largely rejected His instructions. The sad part is to see how much Christian homes have been influenced by the world which has rejected God’s teaching! Prov. 13:24 says: “He who spares his rod hates his son, but he who loves him disciplines him promptly.” Or even more profound: Prov. 23:13-14: “Do not withhold correction from a child, for if you beat him with a rod, he will not die. You shall beat him with a rod, and deliver his soul from hell!” Wow! These passages have been registered in the wisdom literature of the Bible written over 3000 years ago! When we discipline our children for disobedience when they are very small, they become model citizens when they grow up! But failing to correct their anger or disobedience when small will bring a great deal of suffering and pain later!
Spurgeon: Where the plow does not go and the seed is not sown, the weeds are sure to multiply. And if children are left untrained, all sorts of evil will spring up in their hearts and lives.
